Very solid old fashion diner. Place is very crowded for breakfast and of course they focus on the standards. They also hype Colorado Springs only food that could be called local specialty......I know you are wondering what could this fast food city has as its signature...well if there is one thing it would green chili. CS doesn't own green chili but it is one of the few unique things you see on menus here.

Best green chili north of New Mexico. Trust them, the hot is very hot. I recommend a 1/2 & 1/2 blend of the hot and mild with any of their Mexican/American dishes. The bacon is very thick and a must have.

Years ago I lived a couple blocks from this place. Suffice to say I've eaten here a lot in the past 25 years. The booths and tabletops have had an upgrade and the hot chile added habeneros but otherwise it seems the same. It's an old-school place. The kind of place that many chain diners promise but never deliver. I've only ever had breakfast whatever time of day. The eggs are done as you ask and not greasy. The hashbrowns are the tiny shredded kind and, crisp but not burned and also not greasy. Generally the food is plain but well-cooked. No fancy jellies or breads or anything like that. The coffee is about as weak as it comes but at least its not burned.

I've been coming to Western Omelette for many years and have always had pretty good experiences as well as really good food, but I have noticed a decline in the level of service in recent times that causes me concern and I hope the management will take note to correct. They have built a reputation for good food at a decent price and GREAT Green Chili that comes in "Hot"...which is so hot it reguires a special warning on the menu...and even their mild is very flavorful. The food is usually well prepared, but my most recent visit the usually outstanding breakfast burrito was a nearly empty tortilla smothered with green chili. The server was attentive and pleasant, but I was very disappointed in the quality of a usually good menu item.

Just walked into - and out of - this place after sitting, ignored, for several minutes while folks seated all around us received friendly attention. Guess Western Omelette doesn't need our business. We won't be back.

Excellent food and service as always. Even during a rush hour crowd our food was great and we didn't have much of a wait for it!

This is one of those places that has a loyal following. Western Omelette is open for breakfast and lunch, and breakfast is the most hopping time. They have all the breakfast staples: omelettes, skillets, etc. They are legendary for their green chili. The "hot" is HOTTT, so hot in fact that they have a disclaimer on their menu that says there are no refunds if you find your food too spicy. The hot is made with habanero peppers. Definitely a place to stop for breakfast in the downtown/westside area. Prices are fair.

My favorite place for breakfast in the Springs. Recent visit was excellent as always. Huevos Racheros with hot green chile. Made me sweat bullets and I loved every bit. Only complaint I have was the house music was HORRIBLE. Not the usual classic rock that fits the usual clientele. Hope this is not permanent.

I have never had a bad thing to say about western omelet until recently. I gave them another chance today and I was severely disappointed. While the food is hot and palatable, the service is getting worse. The host didn't even look up at us when we walked in. He said "Seat yourselves" and continued playing games on his tablet. We had one server for our side of the building and she was clearly doing everything she could to keep up. There were 3 tables with guests and the remaining 13 or so were covered in dirty dishes and trash. The host couldn't even be bothered to help clear tables when customers got up and left because the place was too dirty to eat in. He stayed perched on his chair with his tablet in his face. The food isn't good enough to out up with subpar service and a dirty atmosphere. I'm done with western omelet.

We sat for 5 minutes without even being acknowledged even though they weren't busy. Two waitresses sat talking while rolling silverware the hostess was doing her hair and makeup. We just stood up and walked out. One of waitresses saw us leave and didnt say a word. This place has been going downhill for years. Too bad for them. We won't be back. The dive on colorado and 31st is so much better.

I've been trying out places around town and this is the best food I've eaten in the entire city so far. Had a habanero ranch Bison burger. Coming back asap to try the mexican menu items as well as the breakfast. This place is amazing. I've had a lot of bison and none compares to theirs. Just.....excellent

I do not know why they bother taking names for seating. The owner came through and sat people who arrived after us (although the biker chick's chest was more prominently displayed than mine). When we asked the hostess for an explanation as to why people were being seated before us, when they arrived 10 minutes after us, she explained that the guy seating people out of order is the boss. I have decided to never return.

I never thought I would be leaving a bad review but here goes. after supporting Western omlet for years we were treated so poorly on our last visit we will never go back. attempted to dine out for Father's day we signed up with the young lady doing hostess duty only to watch the owner totally ignore the list and seat people who he wanted to to the dismay of all waiting on the list. when the hostess was questioned she said he's the owner and can do as he pleases. so can we. we left and will not return due to this treatment. very unprofessional and in fact very discriminatory. Shame on you!!!

Best Colorado breakfast around - the chili relleno breakfast smothered with green chili (I get a tbsp. of the hot green chile to mix in with the regular, I like heat) and eggs however you want. OMG, I love their chili rellenos - chlie strips and cheese wrapped in a crispy shell (these are not the authentic egg dipped rellenos - they're 100X better!) My only complaint is that I couldn't stop eating the rellenos, barely touched the hash browns, so the rest of the afternoon I just wanted to nap!

  • Brandon F.

Breakfast was amazing as always. Thick bacon cooked perfect. I love their hashbrowns. Eggs were great. I normally get breakfast chimichanga, which is amazing coupled with their green chile. Be careful with their spicy green chili. It is made with habaneros, and can make a grown man cry. It's not just about the heat though the flavor is really good. Service is always pretty good. Chairs and tables are basic

  • M G.

Best green chili ever. Be careful of the spicy green chili. It is hot! Start out mild and mix it in. Laid back and friendly environment. Biker friendly

The booth seats felt like I was siting on the floor, sat by the front door so had a cold breeze every few seconds when someone walked in, the staff noticed and did nothing about shutting what I think was a broke front door. When I ordered I asked for a Denver omelette and the waitress had no clue on what that was so I had to look up ingredients on my cell, I thought this was an "omelette" restaurant? Anyways the only reason I'm not giving them 1 star is the food wasn't bad and it was quick. A little pricier than expected for the location and environment. Menu was very confusing, got no napkins, no sugar or milk on table for coffee, on and on I don't think I will be going back.

I've been wanting to try this place for a while, and it did not disappoint! For $14 I got an omelette smothered in green chili with hashbrowns, biscuits and gravy, and two slices of thick-cut bacon. The chili is EXACTLY as good as everyone says it is. The hashbrowns were crispy and the perfect vehicle for lots and lots of ketchup. I tried not to inhale my biscuits and gravy. The bacon was great, but next time I'll pass on it. For that price (I had a lot of add-ons) I got two full and satisfying meals.

I love coming to eat here. Full menu, lunch or dinner all day long. Everything is made to order. The staff are always friendly and welcome me when i come in. Everything on the menu is very good. A must place to eat for your next time out.

If you are looking for 100% organic or GMO free ... keep going. Its not about healthy its about a happy belly. Breakfast is the BOMB!! And plenty of room in here so dont worry about the cars in the lot if its full. Staff is friendly and knows the menu .... waitresses are cute too!

Awful french dip, even worse "turkey" & swiss. The server took our food back to the cook and I could hear him say "Whats she want me to do with this" Yea, thats what I THOUGHT when I took a bite of that disgusting "french dip" sandwich. The meat was in tiny shredded pieces, so it didn't stay in the bread at all to start off. The first bite was luke warm, the edges of the meat were tannish/dark and gray as well, it taste like it had been frozen than reheated quickly (NOT worth the $$$). The cook can't take the heat, I wouldn't eat anything from that place.

Great breakfast! We were in town a few days and looking for a reasonably priced and delicious breakfast. When we first drove up I had some serious doubts. But glad I gave it a chance. Pancakes were yummy and the bacon was awesome. Wasn't greasy, which is a huge plus. We went at 830 on a Sunday morning. No wait, we were seated right away and had a nice cup of coffee in our hands in just a few seconds. Great service! They also offer a military discount.

I love this place. The service is fast and friendly. A diner you can go into and just feel comfortable. Its like a neighborhood bar, you go in sit down and the+ servers greet you with a cup of coffee and a menu. Western Omelette is my go to place when I just want a diner breakfast. Service with a smile is what I think of when I think Western Omelette. I've taken friends and family there. And it really is just a mom and pop joint that is just great.

Great breakfast location in Colorado Springs, I had the Ham with extra cheese omelet. I would recommend.

BEST Huevos Rancheros!!! I order huevos wherever I go. This place is amazing!! The sausage, i believe it's chroizo really makes it!!! Like everyone else says, the hot chili, is F-ing hot!!! Get a sample before you order it, holy cow. Ranch potatoes are also awesome!

  • Nagamagamoo D.

I had the chicken fried steak with hash brown, eggs over easy and 2 pancakes. It was allot of food! Very good! They make their own hot sauces. Must try it. The place seems iconic for the area! Worth a visit, you will not be disappointed.

After living for a year and a half in Colorado Springs, I thought I'd finally rooted out every worthy breakfast joint in town. This past weekend, my boyfriend suggested we try Western Omelette-- and I was favorably impressed! The Western Omelette was a greasy spoon, with seating capacity for about a million people-- so don't worry if you troll the parking lot and can't find a space. I had the Huevos Rancheros, and he had the breakfast burrito-- the measure by which he evaluates every Mexican/Tex-Mex breakfast joint we visit. Both were delicious. The standout of our meal was the the green chile. I like hot food. I'm not a mega-hot-connoisseur, but I can usually hold my own. I opted for a half-and-half blend of mild/hot, and my mouth was burning. My fire-breathing boyfriend (who once had his food made so hot that it was served wearing gloves and he had to sign a health waiver) ordered his all-the-way-hot. In fact, I think he ordered his, "I dare you to make it hot" hot. And, though I give him props for finishing the entire bowl, he clearly broke into a sweat. So be ready to take the heat. Oh yeah-- and the thick-sliced bacon was the best I've had in the Springs.

Saturday morning we went for breakfast. Have to say the service and speed was fantastic. The food was awesome! I had Huevos rancheros (mild sauce) my daughter pancakes eggs and bacon and my husbAnd had something similar and wolfed it down. Only reason I give 4 stars instead if 5 is the lame excuse for coffee. It was 2.50 a cup and undrinkable. I told the server and she said yeah it's pretty bad isn't it. Trouble us when I get a fantastic breakfast I really want good coffee. So I'll go back for the great food but will need to insist on bringing in my own coffee. Cuz what's breakfast without hot coffee?

  • Zaena F.

Simply the best in the 'breakfast diner' category. The staff is friendly because they realize that being friendly is cool (unlike another diner in town which prides itself on being too cool to be polite.) When it comes to the dining experience, as we sit down to treat ourselves to eating out, we as customers are vulnerable to the wait-staff. We hope for good food, good service, and a pleasant experience with out friends, loved ones, or just a delicious meal for one. At the Western Omelette, they get it. The staff is helpful, polite, not intrusive, and the food is delicious. Nothing fancy, just manners and great food. p.s.:They also offer a chilli selection that makes my mouth go, "mmh, mmh!"

  • Luke S.

Food was very good. I had an omelette covered in green chili and it was very filling and tasty. My only issue with this place is the kids meals prices. They are 5.49-5.99, which is average, but that doesn't include a drink. So my 2 kids had a small french toast plate and a drink and it was 8.50 for each kid! Would be 5 stars except for that small complaint.

Don't let the atmosphere scare you. While a lot of bikers frequent this breakfast joint, they know good food. Western Omelet has the best green chili in town and they'll make it as hot as you like. It's always busy on the weekends but there is always plenty of seating. It's one of my favorite places to go after running a race. I've only ordered from their breakfast menu and everything I've tried was delicious. Service is great and you won't leave hungry!

    (5)
  • David W.

The breakfast burritos are served with a plate of shredded hash browns. The bacon is the thick sliced kind. For lunch they have phenomenal hamburgers that are big and you can even get it with the thick sliced bacon on it too. The service is okay depending on who you get.

This is my new go-to place for hangover breakfast in CO Springs. It's just plain awesome. The un-assuming outdoor facade will make you wonder why the parking lot is packed and there are people standing around waiting outside. Inside, there's a busy place with waitstaff that are just talkative enough to be polite without being annoying enough to want to throttle them with my shoe-laces. The food is AWESOME. Priced great, and the portions are huge, and taste great. The Green Chilli here is something special - the way that it's supposed to be done. They warn you that it's hot, but that's bullshit. It's not hot, it's something completely different. It's oppressive and conspires to destroy your palate and ensure that you will never be able to properly taste food again. In a word, it's perfect. Highly recommend, and will be going back here frequently.

The best green chile in town. I like the breakfast enchiladas.

    (5)
  • Todd F.

No matter what you order off the menu, you will certainly not be dissatisfied. The portions are plenty big, and I'd highly recommend putting the 50/50 green chili on nearly anything you order. We are locals who've never ventured in this unassuming diner-style restaurant, but now that we've found this breakfast gem, we'll be sure to go back soon...

Had a really good wrap for lunch. I'll bet they do a great breakfast.

This is my favorite breakfast place! It's affordable too and kind of like a biker restaurant. The Huevos Rancheros is to die for. Their green chili is homemade and amazing! Go give it a try.

Maybe I'm too used to eating good food but this place gets FFF: Flavorless, Fatty, Foul. I ordered the Pony which seemed simple enough; eggs, bacon, hashbrowns and pancakes. I felt the texture of food in my mouth but all I tasted was old grease. The hashbrowns were something akin to sawdust and everything else made me think I was scooping out spoonfuls of lard and placing it directly into my mouth. Salt and pepper didn't help. Maybe I caught this place on a bad day but I won't be returning to find out.

Come hungry or come hungover. There's something about the fresh Colorado air that increases my appetite 3-fold. The gargantuan portions worthy of a spot on Man vs. Food would make for an entertaining conquest. I ordered the Wagon Master--chicken fried steak smothered in country gravy, with 2 eggs anyway you want them, hash browns, and pancakes (or toast if you prefer) and a glass of orange juice to round things out. I tried in earnest to finish my meal and before i could claim victory, i tapped out with the eggs and one last pancake sitting on the table. One day the Wagon Master will be mine.

After years of searching the Springs area for a good breakfast and great green chile, I found them both here. The green chile is incredibly good and when they say it is hot, they mean it. Napalm takes a back seat here. In a word, perfect. Get a side of the hot green before you ask them to put it on your food. Half and half is another good option. But if you are brave, able, and want to prove your worth, get syour breakfast smothered in the hot green chile. The huevos rancheros are the best. "Friendly atmosphere" doesn't begin to describe the restaurant. The place is ecletic and so is the staff. Friendly, but efficient and leave you alone when it is time to eat. I have seen bikers sitting next to little old ladies sitting next to shirt and tie wearing gentlemen. All enjoying their meals.

This place is really good but also out of the way. The good news to me is that if this place has stayed around so long yet been in such a bad location than the food has to be good. The interior is similar to a truck stop breakfast joint but not in the disgusting sense. It almost felt like a crazy uncles house that you love to visit. The waitresses were very friendly and prompt and seemed to have a unconventional method to attending tables, but it all worked out quite well. I ordered my usual breakfast comfort food, Chicken fried steak and eggs. The gravy was on point as well as the steak. I have to say that everything on the menu looked appetizing and i know that I'll be back to give it all a shot. Last but not least the owner being a veteran himself found out that this was my last meal before Afghanistan and was upset at me for not telling him sooner so I didn't have to pay for my meal. I was honored, but thanked him and told him that I'll take a rain check.

My boyfriend calls this "the best-kept secret in Colorado Springs." They have solid American greasy-spoon fare, and I really like this spot for breakfast. It gets crowded fast, so hit it before church if you can. Don't bother looking for muesli, yogurt, grapefruit, or any vegan options -- this is the place to go if you want a ginormous breakfast burrito, bacon, eggs, sausage, hash browns, or other diner food. We affectionately call it the "Womlette".

  • John W.

The food here is awesome! The bacon is really thick cut and tasty. The habenaro chili is dangerously hot. I wasn't brave enough to try it but a friend did and we got to watch him suffer through it. :)

VERY DISAPPOINTING. We had heard a lot of good things about this place. We had to wait awhile for the food so I thought "it must be worth waiting for." Not so. My grilled cheese sandwich was burned on one side and the fries were barely warm. Our server brought our food and that was it. She never came back to ask how anything was. She just stood in the corner close to our table and talked with the manager/owner( not really sure who they were). We left a small tip, but we should have left nothing. This was also on a slow Tuesday so you can't tell me the crappy food and bad service was due to them being too busy. I will never come back here again. Thanks for wasting my time and money Western Omelette!

Like there sign says it all "If you like to hot". Holly cow there hot green chili is hot, its almost yellow cause all the habaneros peppers in it I think its almost too hot. I get the 50/50 on the side so I can control some of the heat. I have only been there for breakfast and its one of my favs. Its a good greasy spoon service is quick food is good its family owned and operated. they are building a back patio, but they have a ton of tables so you can still get in on Sat or Sunday. I like the breakfast chili relleno they use a won ton wrapper for the relleon so its nice and crisp. but they have a big menu. They are only open for breakfast and lunch. So the next time its really cold out and you want some hot stuff or a good breakfast check it out.

This place is awesome! Consistently good food, no matter when we've been here, whether weekday our weekend, busy or not. The bacon is to die for!!!! haven't had anything but breakfast food so far but its been delicious every time. Very kid friendly. Always good service as well.

Ambiance: As soon as you walk in, you can tell this place was a 1960's Sambo's or other chain coffee shop back in the day. Simple and slightly worn decor, with a western motif. Combination of booths and tables (they must have got rid of their counter years ago). Service: Fast and friendly. On weekends, the wait can be quite long between 1030am-130pm. Typical old-school diner-type waitresses (all that is missing is the smacking of the gum). Food: This place has the best green chili in town (and has quite a few awards on the wall to prove it). I absolutely love their huevos racheros (tortilla filled with spicy chorizo, then covered with super spicy green sauce with bits of pork, then the eggs (I like mine over extra easy and let the runny yoke combine in with the spicy green chili). Hashbrowns are served on the side, which are pretty darn good. Sometimes I'll get a side of their extra-thick, smoky bacon. I like my food pretty spicy, but here I have to get the chili mild (which is on par with extra-hot at other places). If you try and order your chili hot, the waitress will ask you if you have tried it yet, and if not, recommend you order it "on the side" unless you are already acclimated to the heat. I have never ordered lunch here (which is basically sandwiches and burgers). Even at lunch time, most customers are eating breakfast. Open only for breakfast and lunch, this place has a loyal and steady clientele that keeps their cash registers ringing seven days a week. I have tried green chili at most restaurants in Colorado Springs and this place serves the best in town. The crowd is a little red-neck and blue collar, but that adds to the charm of this place. Always clean. This has been a regular haunt of mine for years now.

I don't know if this is the best kept secret in town. They had fair green chili, but it wasn't authentic. The place was too loud to talk. And the prices went up.

  • J R.

One of the most novel places you'll find, but don't go if you don't like it hot. Fast service, and you'll see just about every kind of person there. Don't order the hot green chili if you haven't been there before, they take hot seriously.

    (5)
  • David F.

This place truly takes you back to small town, middle American, western diner food. The service was great, the food was pretty good and the green chili (medium) was perfectly spiced! The patrons were a little on the redneck side and I was a little frightened to go to the bathroom alone.

  • Leah B.

This place is our go-to breakfast place. The service is friendly and the food is fantastic. The hash browns are the best ever and the bacon is thick cut with a great flavor. It's family friendly and always packed on the weekends, try to get there early. I usually get The Pony and have never had any issues with quality. On our first visit the waitress brought us out a sampler of their "world famous chili". The "mild" burnt my tongue off and the "hot" was just pure fire. I like spicy, even hot as long as it has a great flavor, but their chili is just way too hot to be edible. But I guess if you want flames coming out your pooper, then go for it. The bathrooms are always clean and I can't say enough good things about the wait staff. If you want a great breakfast at a good price, skip the chains and head here.

We've been coming to Western Omelette for a few years now. It's always busy, so be prepared to wait. It's crowded and loud, but there's a reason for that! They have heaping plates of good, reliable breakfast food. I enjoy hot food (like Thai hot) but their hot green chili really is HOT! If you're going to brave it, do yourself a favor and ask for a sample first. If you still have taste buds after eating the sample, feel free to smother your food in it! The mild green chili is a bit gravy like, but has good chilie flavor. We've ordered huevos rancheros, breakfast enchiladas, biscuits and gravy, create your own smothered breakfast wrap and they have all been big, cheesy and tasty. Warning! This is not health food! One complaint I have is that they say no substitutions on the menu. You can get away with small things, like potatoes on the side, instead of in the wrap. I understand they're busy and substitutions take more time, however; if I'm paying for it and not asking for anything crazy, I feel it should be accommodated happily. Also, good luck navigating your way through the crowd of tables on a Sunday morning!

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
